Unamuno, Miguel de

Miguel de Unamuno y Jugo (born September 29, 1864 in Bilbao † December 31, 1936 in Salamanca) was a Spanish philosopher and writer. He studied at the University of Madrid and later became Professor of History and Rector at the University of Salamanca. During his time as a professor, he not only wrote scientific treatises, but also made use of numerous literary forms of representation such as poetry, essay, novel, novella and narrative. Because of his unpleasant political statements, he was removed from his post several times and lived for several years in exile in the Canary Islands and in exile in France.
