Tucholsky, Kurt
Kurt Tucholsky, born in Berlin on 9 January 1890, wrote for Ulk, the supplement of the Berliner Tageblatt, and for the SPD party organ Vorwärts while still at school and studying law, became a soldier in World War I and worked in Paris as a correspondent for the Weltbühne and the Vossische Zeitung from 1924-29; he emigrated to Sweden in 1929, was expatriated from the German Reich in 1933 and his books were burned. Tucholsky died on 21 December 1935 in Hindås near Gothenburg, presumably taking his own life.
